Hawaiian Airlines has said it expects to begin service between Honolulu and Manila in the Philippines in March 2008.
US Department of Transportation (DOT) approval for the new service is pending. The carrier said it plans to start service with four or more flights per week, which will more than double current capacity on the direct route and allow for growth in traffic.
Additionally, the carrier said its research shows that approximately 170,000 people travelled between Manila and Hawaii during the past year.
The route will reportedly be operated with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.
