Computer company IBM (NYSE:IBM) has revealed it has been selected by Aloha Airlines to expand its customer service offerings, with its self-service systems providing more options for travellers to use the web, along with kiosks and select amenities such as lounge access.

IBM said its system will allow airline customers to select onboard amenities including in-flight meals, group check-in, purchase of paid upgrades and frequent flyer account management. It will also enable passenger records to be retrieved by bar code scan from itinerary or passenger loyalty card.

According to IBM, the system will provide these functions via the web and next-generation IBM kiosks, including 17" touch screens, barcode scanners, passport readers and overhead LCD displays.

In addition, IBM confirmed it will also provide a dedicated express bag drop application and touch screen drop off stations intended to speed the bag drop process and allow the customer to move through the airport more quickly.

Aloha Airlines claimed IBM's system will enable it to provide a highly competitive level of service to customers.
