bmi, the second largest airline at London's Heathrow Airport, has said that it is creating contingency plans for carrying any passengers that are caught up in the threatened industrial action and disruption to British Airways services next week.

bmi said that, to meet demand, the airline plans to increase its capacity at Heathrow by placing larger aircraft on existing flights. bmi also aims to increase frequencies by utilising take-off and landing slot availability that is created by any British Airways flight cancellations.

bmi services the following key destinations which are also served by British Airways from Heathrow: Manchester, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam, Moscow and Lyon. bmi also operates to Durham Tees Valley, while British Airways flies to Newcastle.

Key destinations served by bmi from Heathrow which are also served by British Airways from London's Gatwick Airport include Venice and Dublin.
