AirTran awarded right to start new service between Atlanta and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
AirTran Airways (NYSE: AAI) has been awarded the right to launch new daily service between Atlanta and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT).
The carrier said the DOT awarded AirTran exemptions to the slot limits which govern take-offs and landings at Reagan National. The carrier must begin its new service by 1 August.
According to AirTran, the Department stated that it had selected AirTran's proposal because it would provide the greatest competitive benefits.
In addition to AirTran the Department received applications from ATA Airlines for service from Chicago Midway International Airport; Comair for service from Little Rock, AR; Midwest Airlines for service from Milwaukee; and US Airways for service from Pensacola, FL.
