American Airlines issues statement regarding transportation of firearms to UK

Airline Industry Information, Sept 28, 2007

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

A policy that was recently implemented by US carrier American Airlines, effective for tickets purchased on or after 24 September 2007, stating that the airline would no longer allow the transportation of civilian firearms in checked luggage to Europe and Asia, is to be modified.

The policy was originally implemented as a result of restrictions in the United Kingdom.

American has stated that it is to alter the policy to allow legally declared firearms to be transported on nonstop flights to other destinations in Europe outside of the UK, and to Asian destinations.

The airline is currently unable to allow civilian transport of firearms into the UK, due to UK policies.
