US Airways and IAM reach tentative agreement for ramp and baggage handling employees

A tentative agreement has been reached by US Airways (NYSE:LCC) and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 141, on a single contract for the airline's 7,700 ramp and baggage handling employees.

The companies said the agreement, which is subject to ratification, establishes new wages and introduces other improvements for the airline's ramp personnel and baggage handlers.

Details of the agreement are expected to be released by IAM on 11 April, with the agreement becoming amendable on 31 December 2011. A ratification vote schedule has not yet been set.

US Airways confirmed the agreement moves it closer to bringing its represented work groups to single labour agreements.

In addition, the IAM, which also represents the maintenance and related employees of US Airways, recently announced that mechanics in IAM District 142 had ratified a new agreement, expiring at the end of 2011.
