United Airlines (Nasdaq:UAUA) has announced that it has signed an agreement to offer codeshare flights with Aer Lingus expanding the international destinations and frequent flyer benefits offered to customers of both carriers.

United Airlines said the proposed agreement will mean more flight options for customers travelling between the US and Ireland. The two carriers also intend to enable customers of United's Mileage Plus and the Aer Lingus Gold Circle Club programmes to redeem miles to travel to new destinations and collect frequent flyer miles on certain flights.

According to United Airlines, the relationship with Aer Lingus will provide its customers with more non-stop destinations across the Atlantic and ensure convenient, comfortable service to Ireland for its customers.

The agreement between United Airlines and Aer Lingus is expected to start around 1 November 2008 and is pending government approval.
