Northwest Airlines agrees to join the Green Delegate Challenge

Northwest Airlines (NYSE:NWA), a US airline headquartered in Eagan, Minnesota, reported on 22 August that as part of the Green Delegate Challenge it will be sponsoring the carbon offsets of the delegates from Tennessee, Michigan and Minnesota, the airlines' hub states.

The Green Delegate Challenge is a programme which encourages attendees of the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado to commit to offsetting the carbon footprint they attain from travelling to the convention.

Northwest Airlines will be meeting offsetting the carbon footprint of its delegates' air travel, ground transportation and hotel stays, which are estimated to total 450 tons of carbon, or an average of one ton per delegate.

Further details of how the carbon offsetting will be done were not available.
