The results of a safety audit of the US aviation system conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) were published by the US Federal Aviation Administration on the 25 August.

The US scored 91 out of 100 in the audit, which took into account factors such as aircraft operations and airworthiness, accident investigation, navigation services, airports, personnel licensing and legislation and regulations. The audit included interviews with technical experts and site visits to government and industry facilities to assess overall safety oversight.

The ICAO is a United Nations agency that oversees international civil aviation. The Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program was established by the ICAO in 1995 to provide civil aviation authorities throughout the world with information on the overall health and effectiveness of their airspace systems. The FAA led US preparations for the audit.
