Plans for new flight paths to reduce noise announced by National Air Traffic Services

Airline Industry Information,  Feb 21, 2008

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

National Air Traffic Services (Nats), a company which manages air traffic in the UK, has announced that it has launched plans that would alter the flight paths both to and from some UK airports to divert them from built up areas.

Airports which could be affected by the proposal would include London City, Heathrow, Stansted and Luton.

According to the BBC, Nats said that its plans could cut the number of people affected by noise from departed aircraft, flying lower than 4,000 ft, by 20%.

If approved by the Civil Aviation Authority, the revised flight paths could be implemented by spring 2009.

A consultation period with people from the affected areas, which include Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and north-east Essex; the Chilterns and Luton; east Hertfordshire and west Essex; west and north-west London, and east London and south-east Essex, will be held for a total of 13 weeks.
