Ireland based economy carrier Ryanair has announced that it is to base two aircraft in Edinburgh in order to expand its services.

The airline is to operate 12 direct routes from Edinburgh airport to a number of destinations throughout Europe, in a move that could led to the creation of 1,200 jobs in the region.

According to the BBC, some flights are expected to start in Easter, with additional flights to be added in September.

Destinations to be served as part of the expansion include Berlin, Bratislava, Stockholm, Poznan, Krakow, Lodz, Wroclaw, Malaga and Palma.
