January traffic announced by Alaska Air Group

January passenger traffic has been announced by Alaska Air Group Inc (NYSE: ALK) for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines (Alaska) and Horizon Air (Horizon).

Traffic in January for Alaska grew by 9.9% to 1.411bn revenue passenger miles (RPMs), as compared to 1.284bn in the prior year. Capacity for the carrier in January was 2.049bn available seat miles (ASMs), showing an increase of 6.2% than 1.930bn in January 2007.

The passenger load factor for Alaska for January was 68.9%, compared to 66.5% in January 2007 and the airline carried 1,255,300 passengers, as compared to 1,216,500 in January 2007.

January traffic for Horizon grew by 7.2% to 205.1m RPMs from 191.3m flown a year earlier, whilst capacity was 317.1m ASMs, an increase of 4.9% over 302.2m in January 2007.

Horizon's passenger load factor was 64.7% for January, as compared to 63.3% in January 2007 and the airline carried 586,000 passengers during the month, compared to 501,600 in January 2007.
