British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are offering compensation to passengers who travelled on transatlantic flights between August 2004 and March 2006.
The two airlines agreed in the United States to a GBP100m settlement for fixing the price of fuel surcharges. A total of GBP73.5m is available for British travellers.
As well as transatlantic flights the refund applies to all long-haul flights operated by the airlines during the specified period.
The refund equates to between GBP4 and GBP20 for each return ticket, The Telegraph reported.
In order to publicise the refunds available, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have launched an advertising campaign in newspapers and magazines and on travel websites. They will also have to print the ad in their in-flight magazines.
