Low-cost airline Ryanair has criticised the decision made by the European Parliament to include aviation in European Union emissions trading systems.
The decision was made through a vote, and will come into effect from 2012.
Ryanair claims that the new taxation will do little to help the environment, but could add up to EUR50 per flight to the cost of tickets. The CEO of Ryanair, Michael O'Leary, described the decision as "further raising the tax burden on Europe's citizens".
