The Air Transport Association of America (ATA), which represents US airlines, has called for action to be taken to increase capacity and reduce congestion in New York-area airspace.
The organisation, testifying before the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, criticised the US Department of Transportation (DOT) proposals for congestion pricing and slot auctions at New York's John F. Kennedy and Newark Liberty airports. According to ATA these measures would limit capacity.
ATA president and CEO James C. May described the DOT plans as "completely unproven textbook experiments that no one in the aviation world has used successfully".
ATA has further claimed that congestion pricing and slot auctions are unlawful.
