IATA confirms switch to e-ticketing is complete

Airline Industry Information,  June 2, 2008

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has said that the deadline it set for the industry's conversion to 100% electronic ticketing has been achieved, with e-tickets replacing paper tickets.

The industry body set the deadline of 1 June 2008 at its Annual General Meeting in Singapore in 2004.

IATA deployed a team of 150 people around the world, working with airlines and system providers to facilitate the switch to e-ticketing.

According to IATA a paper ticket costs an average of USD10 to process, compared with just USD1 for an electronic ticket.
