Taiwan-based China Airlines and Chinese carrier China Southern Airlines have signed a memorandum of cooperation, agreeing to deepen their existing partnership.

The two airlines are planning to represent each other's businesses in passenger, cargo, maintenance and ground handling operations. They are already working together on interline ticketing and check-in, passenger baggage check-through and frequent flyer schemes.

China Southern has also said that it will support China Airlines as it seeks to join the SkyTeam airline alliance.

In other news, state media in China reported on Monday (23 June) that China Southern Airlines has applied to increase its fuel surcharge after the government raised fuel prices last week.

The airline currently levies a fuel surcharge of CNY60 for flights of up to 800 kilometres and CNY100 on longer flights, the news agency AFP reported.
