An aircraft flown by Amsterdam-based KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has today (24 March) flown across India after missing its destination airport, according to reports.
The pilot was not aware of the newly opened Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in the Hyderabad suburb of Shamshabad and had originally flown towards the closed Begumpet Airport facility. He was told by air traffic controllers that the airport had closed and he needed to divert to the new airport, but he was reluctant to divert as he had not received notification of the closure and the opening of the new airport, said the news agency Agence France-Presse.
The plane, which had 230 economy and 13 business-class passengers on board, eventually landed at Mumbai.
