An aircraft operated by Australian carrier Qantas blew four tyres on Monday (24 March) as it was attempting to leave Los Angeles International Airport.

According to The Associated Press, the aircraft's pilot aborted takeoff when he became aware of a warning light which went off as he took the Boeing 747-400 down the runway at 23:05.

As a result of the incident the aircraft, which was carrying 232 passengers, became stranded on an adjacent runway.

The aircraft was on its way to Sydney, Australia.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
