Flybe attempts to fill flights with actors - report

Airline Industry Information,  March 31, 2008

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

In an attempt to increase passenger numbers UK based economy carrier Flybe has revealed that it advertised for actors to travel on its route between Norwich and Dublin.

According to the BBC, the carrier made the decision in order to avoid a GBP280,00 penalty charge from Norwich Airport if it failed to carry 15,000 passengers on the route by 31 March.

The airline reportedly offered 200 free return tickets and placed an advertisement on an actors' website, Starnow, for 'extras', stating that extras would be paid GBP80 per day.

The carrier said that it did not end up using extras to fill the seats.
