Further delays to Airbus A380 deliveries

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, which is owned by the aerospace and defence group EADS, has announced further delays to the production and delivery schedule for the A380 aircraft.

This is because more time and resources are needed to increase production.

The company now expects to deliver 12 of the new model to customers in 2008, instead of 13, and 21 in 2009 instead of the planned 25.

Airbus has so far delivered four A380 aircraft, which are now in operation on long-range routes. An additional 17 aircraft are in various stages of production, mainly in the wiring installation and system testing phases, the manufacturer said.

Airbus has not yet released an estimate of how much the new delays will cost, because it said this would be dependent on the actual production and delivery scenario.
