Singapore Airlines announces first flights with iPod and iPhone connectivity

The first flights featuring iPod and iPhone connectivity have been announced by Singapore Airlines, starting on 15 May on its newly reconfigured, all-business class Airbus A340-500 flights between New York and Singapore, with service to be extended to flights between Los Angeles and Singapore from August.

The airline said passengers can now use their personal audio and video content from their iPod or iPhone device on its KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system. It confirmed each seat features a 15.4" widescreen LCD screen and active noise-cancellation headphones.

According to Singapore Airlines, iPod and iPhone connectivity was due to start with its A345 non-stop flights from Newark to Singapore on 15 May and its non-stops from Los Angeles to Singapore from August.

The airline's KrisWorld system offers an integrated nine-pin connection which uses an in-flight cable supporting iPod and iPhone. It confirmed announcements and instructions made by the airline's cabin crew and pilots can still be heard even when content is being played on the devices, with passengers able to use iPhone's airplane mode to use the device through the system.
