Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc (Nasdaq: AAWW), a provider of global air cargo assets and services, has reported a net loss of USD5.3m for the first quarter of 2008.

In last year's first quarter the company made a net profit of USD6.2m.

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings said that record commercial fuel prices had made a substantial impact on its Scheduled Service results during the first quarter. In addition the results reflect the company's expected return to more normalised levels of AMC flying, as well as the seasonally slower pace of air cargo demand in the first quarter of the year.

Total operating revenues for the first quarter increased from USD355.3m to USD373.0m.
