AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
Japanese airline ANA has announced that it has applied to Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to decrease the fuel surcharge on international cargo shipments between 1 January and 31 March 2009.
For long-haul international cargo shipments the fuel surcharge is planned to be reduced from JPY148 to JPY106 per kilogram. For medium-haul international cargo shipments the surcharge will be decreased from JPY125 to JPY89 per kilogram and for short-haul international cargo shipments the surcharge will be cut from JPY122 to JPY86 per kilogram.
The reduction is a result of the price of Singapore kerosene falling to an average of USD115.92 per barrel between August and October 2008.
Fuel surcharges are fixed for three-month periods and revised based upon the average price of jet fuel for the three months immediately preceding the month when the application is filed for the revision.
