Aircraft maker Boeing Co (NYSE: BA) has reported that Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services Co Ltd (Boeing Shanghai) has received a US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Repair Station Certification.

This will allow Boeing Shanghai to carry out modification, maintenance, repair and overhaul services in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations Part 145.

Boeing Shanghai, which is a joint venture initiated in June 2006 between Boeing, Shanghai Airport Authorities and Shanghai Airlines, is currently carrying out heavy maintenance on Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft, of which over 235 are in operation in East Asia and a further 260 are on order. It is also conducting non-destructive testing as well as other maintenance services.

The company said it plans to enter the passenger-to-freighter conversion business in the future, along with expansion into twin-aisle aircraft, starting with the 767-300.
