Russian airline Aeroflot has confirmed that it is interested in acquiring a 50% stake in state-owned CSA Czech Airlines.

According to Aeroflot the government of the Czech Republic will launch an official tender for the airline in November and a purchase could be completed in the first quarter of 2009.

Because of the European Union rules on airline ownership, Aeroflot is negotiating with a potential local partner so that it could gain control over the ownership of CSA.

Both airlines are members of the SkyTeam airline alliance and they already operate codeshare flights and offer reciprocal frequent flyer scheme benefits.
