Delta Air Lines announces its first flight service between Atlanta and Monrovia, Liberia

Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) reported on 22 October that its service to the African continent is to be enhanced with the addition of flights between Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Monrovia's Roberts International Airport in Liberia.

The airline stated that the new service will operate on a Boeing 757 aircraft and beginning in June 2009, it will also stop at Amilcar Cabral International Airport on Sal Island, Cape Verde.

Delta's passengers will be able to connect to over 150 destinations in the US, Latin America and the Caribbean through its Atlanta hub.

At present, Delta operates services between six African airports and the US, with flights between Atlanta and Lagos, Nigeria and Johannesburg, South Africa, by way of Dakar, along with flights between New York's John F Kennedy International Airport and Accra, Ghana; Dakar, Senegal; Cairo, Egypt; and Cape Town in South Africa, also via Dakar.
