Continental Airlines applies for approval to launch service to Rio de Janeiro

Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) has reported that it has filed an application with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for the operation of a service between Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport and Rio de Janeiro starting in June 2009.

The daily year-round flights would include through flight service between New Orleans and Rio de Janeiro.

The airline plans to operate the service, should it be approved, using a Boeing 767-200 aircraft with 149 economy seats and 25 BusinessFirst seats.
