Passengers departing Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) yesterday morning (2 October) with American Airlines were provided with a special edition of the children's story, Corduroy, in select seatback pockets.

The airline is aiming to encourage adults and children to participate in Jumpstart's Read for the Record campaign, which is attempting to break the world record for the most people reading the same book on the same day.

Jumpstart is an organisation whose aim is to ensure that every child in America enters school ready to succeed.

The campaign was brought to Dallas in partnership with Educational First Steps (EFS), a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the availability of early childhood education to disadvantaged children.

Copies of the book were donated by the Pearson Foundation to children and adults in the Dallas area, with American Airlines placing 5,000 copies of the books in the seatback pockets of 25 American Airlines and 15 American Eagle aircraft.

Read for the Record commenced in New York City yesterday with a reading of the story on NBC's Today Show.
