Brazil's TAM to join Star Alliance

Brazilian airline TAM (NYSE: TAM) (Bovespa: TAMM4) is to become a member of the Star Alliance.
The process of integrating TAM into the airline alliance will now begin, with representatives from TAM, United Airlines and the Star Alliance working to ensure the company meets all requirements. These include compatibility with the IT system StarNet and the common guidelines for dealing with passengers.
TAM's frequent flyer programme, TAM Fidelidade, will also be integrated with those of the other member airlines.
Separately, TAM and Air Canada have signed an agreement to offer codeshare services and to integrate their frequent flyer schemes.
Air Canada is one of the founding members of the Star Alliance.
