The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced that it supports the recommendations made by the Competition Commission (CC) that airport operator BAA should be required to sell two of its South East England airports and one Scottish airport.

The CAA also stated that it welcomes BAA's decision to sell Gatwick Airport, the second largest airport in the UK, which was announced earlier in September.

In a report published in response to the CC's provisional findings, the CAA suggested that the CC should ignore claims made by BAA that it is not possible for airports to compete when they have full runways.

Another suggestion made in the report by the CAA was that regulation of airports should be reformed and this reform should result in regulation being focussed on the interests of passengers.
