AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Japan Airlines has announced that it is revising its cargo fleet, route and frequency plan for the second half of fiscal year 2008, ending 31 March 2009.

The airline is suspending its freighter-only operations between Tokyo's Narita International Airport and New York. It is also reducing freighter flight frequency from six to five weekly flights on its Tokyo-Los Angeles route.

Two Boeing 747-200 freighter aircraft will be retired from service and the conversion of a Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft into a freighter aircraft will be cancelled.

As part of the revisions Japan Airlines will be focusing its freighter resources on two North American destinations: Chicago and Los Angeles.

Cargo-hold space on Japan Airlines' passenger flights between Tokyo and New York will be utilised for cargo transportation.
