NatureWorks LLC announced on Tuesday that KLM Dutch Airlines is the first global airline to start using paper cups with Inego coating, which is made from plants, instead of conventional oil-based polystyrene coffee and tea cups.
These cups were first introduced at the start of November 2008 and are now being used across the whole of KLM's fleet.
The Bio-Cup initiative was launched by a partnership between KLM, Moonen Packaging and NatureWorks LLC. The main structure of the cup has a paper base with Inego plastic coating providing moisture barrier properties and grease resistance.
