European aircraft maker Airbus said on Friday that it has teamed up with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for cooperative research activities in the field of composite materials.

Under the cooperation agreement Airbus will work with the Japanese aerospace agency on VaRTM (Vacuum assisted Resin Transfer Moulding) evaluation and NDI (Non-destructive inspection) new technology evaluation for composite materials.

Following this initial cooperation phase the two companies plan to extend their collaboration into other areas such as researching the application of new technologies in aerospace.
