Manufacturer seeking FDA approval: ultralow-dose estradiol patch boosts bone mineral density

Fewer than half of the postmenopausal women in the United States have a serum estradiol level that is this low. However, few reference laboratories are currently able to offer serum estradiol assays with this level of sensitivity.

In addition, despite the finding that this patch has almost no effect on endometrial proliferation, "it would be prudent to monitor a patient's endometrium after 1 year of treatment using either transvaginal ultrasound or biopsy," he advised.
