Medicaid Cancer Coverage

OB/GYN News, Dec 15, 1999 by Joyce Frieden, Farah Kostreski

A bill that would give states the option of providing Medical coverage to treat underinsured or uninsured women with breast or cervical cancer has cleared the House Commerce Committee. Currently, Medicaid covers only screening for these women, who earn too much to be on Medicaid but cannot afford private health insurance.

Congress ran out of time to act on the measure last month, but with 272 cosponsors and the sponsorship of Rep. Rick Lazio (R-N.Y.), who is the assistant majority leader in the House, observers say the bill is a good bet for passage next year.
