Diesel emissions, HCCI, particulate matter characterization dominate SAE-Japan discussions

Diesel Fuel News, June 9, 2003

The top five topics at Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) spring fuels & lubes meeting in Yokohama last month were diesel emissions; homogenous charge compression-ignition (HCCI); PM characterization, lubricant issues, and alternative fuels, as Toyota's Tokuta Inoue pointed out in a keynote speech.

While Toyota presented several papers on its novel "DPNR" diesel catalyst/engine system, and offered several keynote addresses on environmental and energy-efficiency issues with vehicles and fuels, most automakers avoided making presentations. "Apparently, most car manufacturers are too busy and no time to prepare papers" for SAE, he said.
