Japan Government's New Energy Development Organization comes up with diesel particulate matter device

Diesel Fuel News, May 27, 2002

The PM device developed with Nishimitsu Construction also reduces [N.sub.2]O, according to a report from Nikkei. A fuel burner and an electric discharge device oxidize PM collected on ceramic balls, supposedly eliminating the periodic cleanout of more conventional diesel particulate filters (DPFs), the report said.

But at $6,200, the device might not be so competitive (nor as durable) as some much lower-cost DPFs using alternative schemes to promote PM oxidation, according to one manufacturer of DPF materials whom we asked for comment on the report.
