Another CNG bus burns up in India

Diesel Fuel News, Sept 2, 2003

Another CNG Bus Burns Up in India: "Cleaner-burning natural gas" continues to earn a double-entendre reputation with yet another CNG bus burning up in India last week, according to Hindustan Times. An expert engineering report last year warned of the likelihood of even more CNG bus fires in India due to very sloppy and unsafe installations--with no in-use vehicle inspections program, and the wrong type of burst disk installed so drivers can avoid lengthy refueling queues (see Diesel Fuel News 12/9/02, p14).

India's Supreme Court banned clean-diesel alternatives and pushed CNG monopolies for many city bus/taxi fleets following an emotional anti-diesel propaganda campaign.
