Syria reportedly bans passenger diesel vehicle imports

Diesel Fuel News, August 19, 2002

> According to a report from Tebran Tunes this month, Syria just banned import of diesel light vehicles in order to cut air pollution. According to Syria's official SANA news agency, the decision affects minibuses carrying 9-25 passengers and other diesel vehicles under four tons. Neighboring Lebanon went even farther, banning not only import of diesel light vehicles but also officially banning the use of diesel mini-buses and taxis, although enforcement so far is reportedly spotty.
