Russia reportedly aiming to meet European fuels standards

Diesel Fuel News, August 19, 2002

According to a report this month from A&G Information Services, the Ministry of Power is drafting a bill to require Russia to meet Europe's gasoline and diesel fuel standards. An earlier study for European Union found that Russia's old vehicle fleet wouldn't benefit much today from ultra-low sulfur fuels (see Diesel Fuel News 5/27/02, p7).

But trans-Europe/Russia trucking and major international tourist sites in Russia might need ultra-low sulfur diesel for the near-term. Later, when the Russian vehicle fleet turns over with "cleaner" technology, this would require Russian refiners to boost cleaner fuel output.
