Bosch sees 6 million/year diesel particulate filter market by 2007

Diesel Fuel News, Sept 29, 2003

Bosch Sees 6 Million/Year Diesel Particulate Filter Market By 2007: Surging popularity of clean-diesel cars in Europe, and potential for diesel-car growth in North America, means that about 6 million diesel cars/year will be fitted with diesel particulate filters (DPFs), Bosch announced last week.

Bosch bought sintered metal filter technology from Germany's HJS last year. Now, Bosch says it will invest about $223 million in DPF production for light-duty diesels. This technology is especially tolerant to ash build-up with low backpressure, Bosch spokesman Phil Bohl told us. "It has much more ash capacity, for 125,000-150,000 miles" as is required for U.S. EPA "Tier 2" light-duty emissions control systems. Bosch is working on two versions--one pre-catalyzed, the other using fuel-borne catalyst.
