Premcor CEO Tom O'Malley urges sulfur cuts in jet fuel, heating oil & bunker fuel
Diesel Fuel News, Sept 29, 2003
Premcor CEO Tom O'Malley Urges Sulfur Cuts in Jet Fuel, Heating Oil & Bunker Fuel: Otherwise, a lot of sulfur components from diesel fuel probably will end up in heating oil, bunker fuel or jet fuel, O'Malley told Hart World Fuels Conference last week. Cleaning up diesel and gasoline fuels and vehicles, while letting furnaces/boilers, ships and planes continue to pollute with high-sulfur fuels is "idiotic," O'Malley said.
"The public wants cleaner fuels, and the public needs cleaner fuels at a reasonable cost," he said. Refiners also are going to have to deal with petroleum coke, he said in response to a question. "The answer is probably gasification" to make hydrogen, steam and electric power, he said. This also could help reduce refiner dependence on natural gas for hydrogen (aiding fuels desulfurization) and for co-generation of electric power, he added.
