Plasma-Cats: Still A Long Way To Go

Diesel Fuel News, Sept 17, 2001

If someone could figure out how to blend-in and later pull-out alcohols from diesel as reductant for SCR for a plasma-catalyst, this might help advance the heavy-duty plasma-cat development underway between Cat and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. That's because alcohols look better than propene for SCR reductant, PNNL's Chris Aardahl reported here.

Still, the "holy grail" for plasma-cat diesel NOx/PM control would use diesel fuel or maybe some onboard reforming scheme, to avoid the reductant infrastructure problem facing any SCR scheme for diesel emissions control.
