Low-C[O.sub.2] cars are going to cost more no matter whether diesel or gasoline. Workshop Highlights

Diesel Fuel News, Sept 16, 2002

Ricardo' s "iMoGen" diesel-electric hybrid could deliver 50% less C[O.sub.2] emission than today's new gasoline cars, but with "significant" cost increase until large-scale production allows scale economies, Ricardo engineer Doug Graham told DEER conference. Gasoline-electric hybrids also cost more than conventionals, however.

"Downsized" diesel engines enabled by "mild hybrid" offer another advantage: higher exhaust temps, as favored by NOx/PM catalysts, although such small engines also have higher engine-out NOx, he said.
