A third of total diesel PM exposure is while driving in cars

Diesel Fuel News, Jan 20, 2003

> That's what California Air Resources Board calculates in a study to be presented at a CARB seminar Feb. 4 in Sacramento. "The 6% of our day we spend in vehicles causes about one-third of our total DPM [diesel particulate matter] exposures," CARB says. "This high relative importance of in-vehicle exposures means on-road diesel emissions contribute three times more exposure on an equal mass basis than off-road diesel emissions." Californians average about 90 minutes/day in their cars.
