VW still unsure about bringing diesel 'Touareg' to U.S. market

Diesel Fuel News, Jan 20, 2003

While showing off its new Touareg sport-utility vehicle (SUV) at U.S. auto shows this year, VW still isn't sure about whether or when to bring the diesel version from Europe to the U.S. Reason: Unlike the compact diesel "Golf" or "Jetta" cars sold in U.S., the "Touareg" is a much bigger vehicle, with a much bigger diesel engine (4.9 liter, 313-horsepower V10) and hence, tougher-to-meet U.S.

EPA emissions limits, the problem with all big vehicles. "We'd love to bring it to the U.S. but that's up in the air for now," VW says.
