European Environment Bureau Slams Bio-Fuels Mandate Scheme

Diesel Fuel News, Oct 1, 2001

> The EBB, composed of 134 "green" organizations in 25 countries and the official consultative organization to the European Commission, slams the BC "biofuels" mandate proposal (see Diesel Fuel News 8/6/2001, p10). Biofuels are not only a waste of tax dollars for farm subsidies, but also destructive to "set-aside" natural areas, of little net benefit to farmers since cheaper imports are likely, and of zero benefit on climate change/CO2 emissions since biofuels require fossil-fueled farm machinery and pesticides, EBB told the BC in a formal letter.
