Detroit Diesel/Mercedes/MTU urge EPA to include SCR Technologies in non-road NOx control

Diesel Fuel News, Oct 27, 2003

Despite skepticism toward selective catalytic reduction (SCR) that EPA expressed in its non-road diesel proposal, "EPA should recognize that SCR or other technologies may supplant NOx adsorbers as the prime path technology for achieving very low levels of NOx emissions either because the assumed potential of NOx adsorbers can not be realized or because other technologies are found to be more cost-effective," DDC and its sister companies tell EPA in comments on the non-road rule proposal.

In other rule issues, DDC urges EPA to join Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA) "in committing to the proposed Advanced Collaborative Emission Study (ACES) initiative which is aimed at quantifying the health risks of diesel engines equipped with advanced emission control systems." It also urges EPA to establish non-conformance penalties for Tier 4 non-road engines, just as EPA earlier established for highway diesel engines.
