Biofuels Directive Revision
Diesel Fuel News, Oct 15, 2001
A "hotly-contested" European Commission (EC) proposed draft biofuel directive is still under revision, according to an EC source.
At minimum, it will propose a trimmed-down version of the initial scheme, which would have mandated that all gasoline and diesel fuel produced and sold in EC member states contain at least 2% biofuels by 2005, and 5.75% by 2010, the source said.
"We're not including an obligatory mandate," a commission source said. "We're going to be leaving it to the market [to choose where to use biofuels]. They can use it in gasoline or diesel, or even 100% biodiesel if they choose."
